After a very long and exhaustive search of Europe, including Belgium,
Italy, Hungary, The Czech Republic among others, we found and fell
in love with our Petit Bijou. It's right in the heart of the Aquitaine
region of Southwest France.
The region, village and people captivated us from the beginning and
we immediately fell in love with this charming house. Come explore
Salies de Béarn and you find a quaint medieval village with many old
dwellings (many that were built in the 17th century) with an amazingly
relaxed ambiance. You'll get lost in the many alley ways found
throughout, but it won't matter as you anticipate what you'll find around
the next corner. The architecture carries you back hundreds of years.
It does, however, also offer the comforts of modern day life in
Southern France; cafés and restaurants, bakeries, and shops are all
within a short walking distance. Salies de Béarn also has a local
casino and is home to a thermal bath spa! Once you've explored the
immediate surroundings by foot, with a short 40-45 minute drive you'll
find yourself in the heart of the Pyrenees; hiking and snow skiing or at
the famous beach destination of Biarritz. And that's just the beginning,
other close destinations include: Pau, Bordeaux, Toulouse as well as
many small villages in the immediate area.
Our Petit Bijou is a luxury, self-catering home that is next to the Saleys
(the small river that cuts through the village). We look forward to
